After nearly two decades designing for some of the most recognized names in hospitality, Tonya Al-Mallah Schmitt has developed a point of view shaped as much by the world she has experienced as the spaces she has designed.

Having traveled to more than 20 countries, Tonya brings a well-traveled perspective to every story and interior she develops. Her inspiration is often found beyond the traditional design world—in the faded plaster of an old European villa, the ritual of a beautifully set table, a textile discovered abroad, the intimacy of a neighborhood restaurant, or an object brought home simply because it told a story.

With a distinctly European sensibility, Tonya believes spaces should never feel decorated, but collected—layered over time with pieces, materials, and details that create a sense of history, intimacy, and belonging. The result is design that feels deeply personal and considered, yet never overly prescribed.

Her experience spans hotels, resorts, restaurants, luxury homes, multifamily, and senior living, supported by years working within leading hospitality design firms and for a major global hotel brand. This background gives Tonya a rare understanding of both sides of the equation: the emotion and storytelling behind great design, and the operational, financial, and brand considerations that make it successful.

Today, that perspective lives within House of Lah Lah, a design house inspired by Tonya’s Middle Eastern roots, her family name Al-Mallah, and a lifetime of curiosity about how people around the world live, gather, travel, dine, and connect.

Based in South Florida and designing nationally, Tonya creates spaces that feel storied, soulful, and unmistakably individual—places meant not simply to be seen, but experienced and remembered.
